The Ventilation part of HVAC

If you have buttoned up your home to seal off air leaks, you are saving energy and money.
But sealing the house can make it an unhealthy place to breathe. Some contaminants that have no place to go in an airtight house include:

• formaldehyde (a component of many home furnishings),
• volatile organic compounds (from cleaning solvents)
• mold, mites and other pollutants
• maybe even radon

So, should you live in a drafty house? Not necessarily. There does not have to be a large trade-off between energy efficiency and a healthy indoor environment.

Proper ventilation will help prevent mold growth especially in basements and crawl spaces. Even if you don’t spend much time in these places, enclosed spaces can collect moisture and breed mold spores, which will travel to living areas. Damp air and moldy odors will alert you to the presence of moisture in the home.

Some solutions to moisture control:

Exhaust fans are important in ventilating high moisture bathrooms and laundry rooms – our sales staff can give you suggestions for even those rooms that cannot be vented to the outside.

Air cleaners can remove harmful particles from interior air. Air cleaners include furnace filters, electronic air cleaners and ion generators. Dome air cleaners can remove gaseous pollutants.

UV lights in air handler units can kill mold on the coils in your HVAC system

Ceiling fans and, especially, attic fans are another way to reduce moisture and your summer cooling bill. On a 90-degree day, attics can get as hot as 150 degrees. Moisture in your home can migrate to the attic. Over time this can damage insulation and building materials, as well as lead to mold growth.

High heat and humidity will be here soon! If you have a problem with moisture and mold odors, now is the time to give us a call. Contact info@ argent–heating–cooling.com to request a free estimate on ventilation equipment.

In Extreme Cold Be Sure To Check This

During these extremely cold snaps we very often find clogged condensate drains on home hvac systems because sometimes these drains are run outside initially. While that’s ok for the a/c units to drain there since they only use the drain in the summer, very often an add on humidifier is installed and that drain is tied into the same line. This is a no-no since the humidifier drains during operation and the condensate will freeze in the winter. A homeowner can easily tell if they have a potential problem by tracing their drain to see where it goes. If they are not sure, Argent Heating & Cooling will send a certified technician to the home to review and make the necessary recommendations and repairs.

4 Reasons Why You Should Own a Service Agreement

1. “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” This applies to your home’s health as well as your own. Most of the calls we receive are of an urgent to emergency nature. And the breakdowns have a habit of occurring at the worst possible times, like the day you’re hosting a party. Spending a little bit of money on maintenance is a lot better than a huge bill for a major repair.

2. We’ll contact you. With so much else on your mind, it’s easy to forget to book those annual system check-ups. Our service agreement customers get a call or postcard from us to remind them it’s time to be visited by a capable technician who will fix little problems before they become big ones.

3. You’ll get special treatment. Our service agreement customers get preferred pricing and call scheduling. To us, a service agreement customer becomes part of a network of friends. Many of our service agreement customers develop relationships with the technicians who service them and often request them by name. One reason we charge less to service agreement customers is because we rely on them for referrals and public reviews that help to build our business. It’s a win-win all the way.

4. You want someone you can trust. You take a risk every time you do business with someone you don’t know. Service agreements enable you to evaluate our performance time and time again.

Argent offers a maintenance plan service agreement that will set you up for continued service. Take care of your home with proper check-ups on your systems before small issues become costly repairs. Signing up for our maintenance plan will keep you at the top of our list should you needs services in an emergency.
